Tooth Repair and Replacement

Restorative dentistry is what most people consider to be the foundation of their dental care. At St. Louis Smile Salon, restorative services are our way to help people eliminate decay or broken teeth, replacing them with strong teeth that last for years and are free of disease. Dr. Nikodem provides the following restorative services:

White Composite Fillings

These metal-free fillings are matched to the color of the teeth, restoring the tooth after decay has been removed. Composite fillings also require less tooth preparation, protecting healthy enamel longer than traditional fillings.

If teeth are broken or decayed past the point of being restorable with a filling, then a crown can cover the entire surface of the tooth so that its normal stability and function are restored. Crowns are also used after root canals, and are shaded to match adjacent teeth.

A bridge replaces one or two teeth at a time, when healthy teeth are on the adjacent ends of the open space. Bridges are usually made of porcelain and are mounted on the healthy teeth, with false crowns suspended across the space, bridging the gap between teeth.

Partial dentures are used to replace several missing teeth in the same arch with a removable prosthesis. The partial snaps around existing teeth, and has prosthetic teeth mounted on the appliance where other teeth are missing.

Full dentures (sometimes called “plates”) replace all missing teeth with a single removable prosthesis. Dentures can be traditional or immediate, depending on the needs of the patient.

Implant Restoration

We provide repair and restoration to existing dental implants, such as the replacement of permanent crowns or bridges.

Root Canals

Endodontic therapy is the treatment of diseased or damaged nerve tissues inside of teeth. Most people refer to this process as a root canal. During this treatment, the damaged tissue is removed and the nerve chamber is filled to prevent further damage.

Oral Surgery

Most minor surgical cases can be completed here in our office, such as routine extractions.
